
In nine months, in the area of the District Attorney General of Lisbon (PGDL), the courts analyzed 1059 cases of domestic violence. More than a third (36.64%) of the cases ended with an acquittal. Of convicts, 8% were in the actual prison.
The numbers refer to the period from September 2014 to May 2015 and in the report on domestic violence, July 2015, the PGDL, made public late last week on the official website of this prosecution agency (MP ). The analysis covers five regions: Azores, Lisbon, Lisbon North, West Lisbon and Madeira.
Numbers summary: 388 acquittals; 665 convictions and six “other decisions”. Of convictions: 84 (ie 7.93%) to imprisonment; 146 a suspended sentence and 382 suspended sentence but also by imposing “rules of conduct or subject to duties.” In 11 cases the arrest was replaced by fine or work for the community.
